The valley of Flowers is a beautiful region with stunning
background and flowery landscape located in the northern part of Uttarakhand
near the borders of Nepal and Tibet. The Valley of Flowers National Park comes
alive during the monsoon rain.

History of the park
Himalayan valley has around 300 several varieties of alpine
flowers that appear to have beautiful mountainous snow capped background. This
park was made as national park in 1982. This park is also certified by UNESCO
as a World Heritage Site.
Size of the park:
This national park and the valley of Flowers is spread over
87.5 sqkm. The main Valley of Flowers is a glacial corridor. This is five
kilometers long and two kilometers wide.
Reaching the valley of flowers:
The Valley of Flowers National Park is situated near Chamoli
Garhwal. This is close to Nanda Devi National Park. The total area of the It’s
about 595 km from Delhi. The altitude of this park varies from 10,500 feet to
21,900 feet above sea level. The travelers can reach this beautiful destination
from the Dehradun airport which is 295 kilometers away.
The perfect time to visit:
The beauty of the Valley of Flowers can be witnessed from
the month of June and it will be till the month of September and from mid July
to mid August. After the first monsoon rain the flowers will bloomed fully. The
remaining month will be covered by snow. If you visit this place before July
only the melting glaciers can be found.
Timing of visit and the entry charges
The Valley of Flowers is opened from light hours from 6 a.m.
to 6 p.m. Due to the security purpose camping and trekking is prohibited in
this national park. The entry fee is 600 rupees for foreign visitors and 150
rupees for Indian visitors. This includes a 3 day pass. For each additional day
the charges will be 250 rupees for foreigners and 50 rupees for Indians. There
forest department has a check point before a kilometer from Ghangaria, which
marks the beginning of The Valley of Flowers.
Places to stay:
You can have an overnight stay in the Joshimath before
continuing to Ghangaria and also many government guesthouses are available for
accommodation.
Rare species:
Some of the rare flora species that are found in this valley
of flowers are Aconitum heterophyllum, A. falconeri, Arnebia benthamii,
Dactylorhiza hatagirea, Gymnadenia orchides, Megacarpaea polyandra, Picrorhiza
kurrooa, Podophyllum haxandrum and Taxus wallichiana, orchids, poppies,
primulas, marigold, daisies, anemones, Sub-alpine, forests of birch,
rhododendron, Dactylorhiza hatagirea, Picrorhiza kurrooa, Aconitum violaceum,
Polygonatum multiflorum, Fritillaria roylei, Podophyllum hexandrum etc can be
found in this valley.
